SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami today released a picture book capturing the heavy losses suffered by the Golden Temple and the Akal Takht during the military assault in June 1984 Operation bluestar.

Dhami said the June 1984 massacre remains one of the most painful chapters in Sikh history. He stated that the government of the time inflicted a deep, irreparable wound on the Sikh psyche by launching a military attack on their holiest shrines. The attack, he said, not only caused enormous physical and emotional damage but also led to the destruction of invaluable religious treasures, including historical documents and artefacts preserved in the Sikh Reference Library.

Some of these atrocities were captured in photographs by artist and photographer Satpal Singh Danish. These photos have now been compiled and published by the SGPC in the form of a detailed illustrated book that was formally released today.

The photographs depict the horrific conditions during the attack and document the brutal violence carried out by the government forces.

He informed that the book will be made available at the SGPC headquarters, Sikh Reference Library, Information Centre at the Golden Temple, and the Central Sikh Museum to educate the Sangat about the atrocities committed against the Sikh community. Additionally, the book will be digitized and disseminated through various platforms to ensure broader public access.
