The Dinanagar Municipal Council has been facing problems with the proper disposal of solid waste. Residents say the MC sends a monthly annual report to the state government, claiming “solid waste is regularly segregated.”

An MC official said: “Nothing of this sort is happening. The MC has a 16-member house, including the local MLA, who is the ex-officio member. All these members belong to the Congress. They rarely listen to the orders of the AAP-led government. The differences between the two parties mean development in the town suffers.”

There is no planning and coordination amongst officials. One day a road is made, the next it is dug up to lay water supply pipes. The Nanonangal road is a prime example of this. “Bad planning is the hallmark of this MC,” said a resident. The National Green Tribunal also expressed concern over the town’s solid waste management.
