Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney has directed officials to ensure that all dead animals in flood-affected areas are disposed of properly so that the risk of spreading diseases can be avoided. She said poultry farm owners must be contacted for the safe disposal of dead birds.

The DC was holding a meeting with officials at Ajnala to review the situation after the water level receded. She said along with relief work, the administration’s priority is to prevent health hazards. “Officials and employees must reach every affected family and make sure that relief material is delivered to them,” she said.

Sawhney instructed officials to collect data of families whose houses and businesses were completely destroyed in the floods so that their rehabilitation could begin. She also asked revenue officials to speed up the process of girdawari (loss assessment) so that compensation reaches people on time.

The DC said those who lost important documents in the floods should be helped through digital records such as Aadhaar and linked mobile numbers so that compensation can directly be transferred to their bank accounts.
