The Health Department has issued strict instructions to doctors asking them not to prescribe any medicines to patients from outside the hospital. The decision has been taken to ensure that all patients receive their medicines directly from the hospital pharmacy.
Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur said that most essential medicines are already available in the hospital pharmacy and these are supplied by the government. She said that, therefore, there is no need for patients to spend money to buy medicines from private pharmacies.
She added that strict action will be taken against any doctor or staff member found violating these instructions.
The Civil Surgeon has also directed the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) and all Medical Officers (MOs) to follow these rules carefully. She emphasised that it is the hospital’s duty to provide proper treatment and free medicines to every patient who visits the hospital.
The official stated that if any complaint is received in future about patients being asked to buy medicines from outside, strong departmental action will be taken against the person responsible. Dr Kirandeep Kaur said that the aim is to make healthcare truly affordable and accessible for all.
Senior Medical Officer Dr Rashmi Vij and District Medical Officer Amardeep Singh were also present when these orders were discussed.
The Civil Surgeon stressed that the hospital pharmacy should remain well-managed and all medicines must be properly stocked and distributed. She urged all staff members to work honestly so that no patient faces any trouble in receiving free treatment and medicines at the Civil Hospital.
