Police Commissioner (CP) Arun Pal Singh said during probe it was found that earlier, too, thefts had occurred at the victim’s house when Shankar had gone for work in the past.

The CP said on June 12, deceased Kamini identified the accused while he was stealing valuables from her house. So, the accused strangled her to death, the CP added.

The police have recovered a set of gold ornaments, a gold chain, pair of gold earrings, bank copies and FD from the possession of the accused.

Meanwhile, in another case the police arrested another suspect in three-month-old murder case in which a man identified as Gurpeet Singh, a resident of Anandpuri Mohalla on the Ram Tirath road, was shot dead by his nephew Gurbaksh Singh, alias Lala. The incident occurred in the Ghannpur Kale area.

Earlier, the police had arrested Lala’s mother Sukhwinder Singh Kaur of Kale Ghannpur in this connection. She was also involved in the murder case, the CP said while adding that Gurbax had escaped at that time.

The Chheharta police arrested Lala yesterday. He was produced in the court and brought on two-day police remand for further investigation. He had several cases of quarrel, attempt to murder and arms act registered against him.

Gurdeep used to work as a security guard. The CP said the victim had an old enmity with the accused.

According to the police, it was a revenge killing as Gurdeep had earlier killed his brother and Gurbakh Singh’s father Harjinder Singh around eight years ago.

Gurdeep had returned from jail four months ago after serving his jail term. He had come to Ghannupure Kale for some work. When Gurbaskh came to know about this he opened fire at Gurdeep leaving him dead.
