Dr Pragya Jain takes charge as DCP city

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Pragya Jain on Friday took charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Police after getting promoted to the rank. She is the first woman DCP of the city.
Police Commissioner Gupreet Singh Bhullar fixed the star during the Pipping ceremony at his office here. Among others who were present on the occasion included DCP Harpreet Singh, DCP Alamvijay Singh, ADCPs Dr Darpan Ahluwalia, Prabhjot Singh Virk and Navjot Singh. She was recently shifted to Amritsar as the ADCP (City-3). Hailing from Barut in Uttar Pradesh, Dr Jain is an IPS officer of the 2017 batch. She is the first woman DCP officer in the city. Earlier, she remained posted as the ADCP in Ludhiana and Jalandhar commissionerate, Superintendent of Police (D) at Khanna and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at Barnala.
Known for her attitude of leading from front and going beyond call of duty to serve needy persons, she was behind the busting of infamous Agra and Mathura gangs leading to seizure of intoxicants worth Rs 3 crore during her tenure as the ASP in Barnala. She also busted a pharma opioid drug rackets in Ludhiana and seized over 60 lakhs intoxicants. During her tenure at Khanna, she was behind the recovery of over 200 illegal weapons.
