Durgiana temple committee poll: Laxmi Kanta Chawla files papers
Amritsar, July 8
On the last day of the filing nominations for the Durgiana temple management committee elections, BJP leader and former Cabinet minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla filed her nominations. The Durgiana temple committee is hosting the elections for the posts of its office-bearers after seven years and the elections will be held on July 24. The list of nominees will be out on July 12.
Businessman Balbir Bajaj is appointed as the chief election officer. Chawla is the first woman to file her nomination for the Durgiana temple management committee elections. “If I am elected president of the committee, I promise to make the epicentre of spiritual as well as social welfare. The elections have already been delayed by two years due to the pandemic.”
The other nominees include former Durgiana managing committee head Ramesh Sharma, senior BJP leader and former chairman of the Amritsar Improvement Trust Sanjeev Khanna. This is the first time that the committee will choose its president through a ballot. Earlier, general house members of the committee used to elect the office-bearers through a call of voice votes or raising hands.
