Tightening the noose around e-rickshaw and auto- rickshaw drivers, the police have asked them to wear uniform while operating the vehicles and also to pick up and drop passengers on the roadside instead of in the middle of road that may lead to accidents.

A large number of auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw are the lifeline of most of the city people. But it would be no exaggeration to call them a menace or potential threat to commuters on roads. It is a nuisance because these lead to chaos on roads. Most of the auto-rickshaw drivers can be seen changing the lanes abruptly or applying the brakes unmindful of vehicles in tow whenever they find a person standing by the roadside. As a result, road accidents take place.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amandeep Kaur held a meeting with auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers and asked them to strictly follow the traffic norms and also wear grey colour uniforms while plying vehicles on the road. She asked them to pick up and drop passengers from and on the roadside.

“There should be name plates on the uniforms, besides parking their vehicles in a streamlined manner rather than in a chaotic way that leads to traffic jams on the road,” she said. She also asked them to maintain and keep all the documents with them before bringing their vehicles on the road otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
