Addressing officials, teachers, children and parents on the occasion, Sahni said all government schools in the state are undergoing a transformation. She appealed to the parents and said that for the better future of their children, they should get their children admitted in government schools so that they can get maximum benefit from the numerous facilities provided by the government in these schools. “At present, the students studying in government schools are making great strides in every field. Now, it is a matter of pride to study in government schools,” she said. She interacted with the students at the school and also distributed laddoos at the launch of the campaign.

District Education Officer, Amritsar (Elementary/Secondary), Kanwaljit Singh and Harbhagwant Singh along with officials of the Education Department also created teams of enrolment officials, who would be running the awareness campaign. “This year, we are looking at a 10 per cent increase in enrolment and we will be highlighting facilities that have been upgraded in government schools last year. We give free books and uniforms. Additionally, the teachers of the government schools are highly qualified and are also being upgraded in international teaching pedagogies. The awareness van will go to various villages, towns and cities of the district from March 20 to 22, during which, the parents of children and other common people will be made aware of the quality education being provided by the Punjab Government in government schools as well as other facilities available,” said Harbhagwant Singh.
