Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrated with religious fervour in Amritsar
Eid-Ul-Fitr was celebrated with religious fervour here on Monday as a large number of devotees gathered at mosques in the city to offer prayers. Major leaders from different political parties also visited mosques to wish Eid to adherents of the faith.
Eid-ul-Fitr signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan. People of all religions joined the Muslim community at Jama Masjid, Hall Bazaar, during celebrations. Devotees offered ‘namaz’ (prayer) and hugged each other. Maulana greeted and addressed the gathering on the occasion. The second major mosque of the city on the Sultanwind road was also decked up for the celebrations as traditional seviyan (semolina dessert) was served with sherbet among devotees after offering prayers.
A large number of migrants from the Muslim community also gathered at Sultanwind and Hall Gate to be a part of Eid celebrations. Several Eid delicacies, including rose petals-infused seviyan kheer and sherbet, was served among traders and shopkeepers at Hall Gate.
Ravinder Hans, state vice president, SC Wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, celebrated Eid with Imam Abdul Noor, Khurshid Pakeezah and other members of the Muslim community today. Speaking on the occasion he said India was a secular country. He said all religions were given respect in the Indian Constitution.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO greeted Muslim community on Eid at Gadli village. He said the festival of Eid promotes the spirit of hope, harmony and kindness in society. He offered sweets to Mansoor Din, Fazal Mohammad, Firozuddin and Noor Mohammad on the occasion.
Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal also met people of the Muslim community in his Ajnala constituency and extended Eid greetings to them.
