Employees, pensioners burn effigies of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, FM Harpal Cheema over demands
The employees and pensioners of the Punjab Government while expressing their resentment over non-resolution of their the demands and other issues organised a rally at the local bus stand and burnt effigies of the Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema here on Tuesday.
The call for the protest in this regard was given by Punjab Employees and Pensioners Joint Front, in which the employees and the pensioners from across the district participated despite hot weather.
The participants marched from the local bus stand, located at a distance of 5 km from the District Administration Complex, where the effigy of the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister was burnt.
Gurpreet Singh Gandiwind, state leader of the agitating employees, and Gurbhej Singh Dhillon, another leader, were among those who addressed the gathering on the occasion and condemned the state government for not redressing the demands of the employees and the pensioners.
The leaders stressed for the regularisation of the services of the temporary employees, removal of the discrepancies in the pay commission report, revival of the old pension scheme, minimum pay to be fixed at Rs 35,000 monthly. The participants raised slogans against the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister for their alleged indifferent attitude toward their demands.
The leaders warned the state government against postponing the proposed meeting with the leaders of the joint front called scheduled for August 20.
