Ensure Covid jab at schools: CS
Amritsar: Civil Surgeon Dr Charanjit Singh conducted a meeting with the officials of the Education Department to expedite the process of vaccinating children aged above 12 years. The Civil Surgeon asked the education officials to ensure vaccination of eligible children at all government and private schools. “Though the number of new cases is negligible now, the threat is not over yet. Every child must be inoculated before the infection increases in future,” he said. The district health officials said in the 12 years to 14 years’ age group, 31,931 children have received the first dose of the vaccine. In the age group of 15 to 17 years, 76,419 children have received the first dose, while 32,856 children have received the second dose. TNS
Legal guarantee for MSP sought
Amritsar: A delegation of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister at the DC office here seeking legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) of crops. Farmers demanded that the MSP should be extended for all crops, vegetables and even milk. Dhanwant Singh Khatraikalan, a farmer leader, said: “We want that the MSP be legally guaranteed and it should be given on all farm produce.” He said the SKM was observing MSP week from April 11 to April 17 and events were being organised to highlight the issue. Farmers demanded that private players should not be allowed to purchase agricultural produce at less than the minimum support price. They further demanded that in view of the drop in yield due to early summer and high demand of wheat in the international market due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, farmers should be given a bonus of Rs. 1,000 per quintal. They claimed that the yield of wheat had gone down by 3 to 4 quintals. The delegation also demanded action against the accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. TNS
Man critically hurt in attack
Tarn Taran: Dilbag Singh of Thathian Mahantan village was seriously injured in an attack on Wednesday. The injured was admitted to a local private hospital, but was referred to Amritsar. His condition was stated to be serious. Old rivalry is said to be the reason behind the conflict. Sources said Dilbag was at the village bus stop, when he was attacked. The main accused are Ajit Singh, his brother Bhinder Singh, Lovpreet Singh, all of the same village, and three more unidentified associates, police said. Dilbag was attacked on arms and his other body parts also received deep injuries. Patti DSP Maninderpal Singh said the police were sent to the hospital to record the statement of the victim, but doctors said his condition was critical. The DSP said the victim had attacked Ajit Singh at his home a few days ago, after which they came looking for him. The Sarhali police have registered a case under Sections 307, 148, 149 and 506 of the IPC against the accused who are at large. OC

Amritsar: The members of Amritsar Chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) visited Jallianwala Bagh to know about its history and importance on Tuesday. Students of school heritage clubs of Sri Guru Har Krishan Public School, Sultanwind link road; Holy Heart Public School; and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Moodhal, also accompanied INTACH members. Ban sought on 2D animated movie
Amritsar: Members of the Jagtar Singh Hawara Committee sought ban on 2D animated movie ‘Supreme Motherhood: The Journey of Mata Sahib Kaur’ and held a protest march on Wednesday. Ranjit Singh, a protester, said the movie flouts the basic religious ethos of Sikhism. He said this was not tolerable and the religious feelings of Sikhs were hurt with it. He called upon the makers of the movie to withdraw it.
