Entangled in Chinese string, barn owl rescued
Amritsar: A barn owl entangled in Chinese string on a tree was rescued by environmentalist PS Bhatti on Tuesday. Bhatti said a local resident informed him about a bird trapped in banned Chinese string at Ranjit Avenue. He said he and his men rescued the bird and brought it to Kahan Singh Pannu Nursery of Missionaries of Khudai Khidmatgaran, an NGO, engaged in preserving native trees and planting trees in and around the city. During the curfew in the state, kite-flying has been a major pastime for youngsters of the holy city. With this, the use of deadly Chinese string is also on the rise. The string has been playing havoc with birds’ lives. Bhatti said this was the 66th bird rescued in the past four months.— TNS
