Amritsar, January 13

Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Friday reviewed national highway projects, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, and inspected the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises office.

The road network plays an important role in boosting the economic condition of the state so that states can be connected by road and trade can increase, said ETO while holding a review meeting with the administrative officials of National Project Highway and Amritsar regarding the Delhi-Katra Expressway.

Harbhajan, who holds the portfolio of Public Works Department, said Rs 1,829 crore was released to acquire the land for Delhi-Katra Expressway. Out of it, Rs 1647 crore has been distributed to the concerned till now. He instructed the officials that no laxity would be tolerated in the works of the national highway and if any problem related to land acquisition at any place arose, it should be solved on priority.

After officials of the National Highways Authority of India raised the matter that some people were not handing over the possession of the land even after taking money, the minister instructed officials concerned to personally look into these cases and get these settled as soon as possible.

He instructed all SDMs that there should be no delay in giving compensation to the owners of any land and the owners concerned should get the compensation as determined by the government.

He appealed to the farmers in case there was any mistake in the rates of land then they could approach the arbitrator. He said only the money fixed by the government was being given to the respective owners.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Minister also visited the office of the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises. He also observed coaching classes being taken for government jobs and interacted with students.

He inquired about counselling and placement activities of the bureau. He encouraged the youth to focus on their coaching and training and urged them to take full advantage of the schemes being run by the government.

Neelam Mahe, Deputy Director of the Bureau, briefed the minister about the activities of the bureau.
