Excise Dept, cops conduct raids, recover illicit liquor, lahan

The police and the Excise Department conducted raids at four different places on Friday and recovered 380 litres of lahan and 7,500 ml (10 bottles) of illicit liquor. Four cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Excise Act against the three accused. One of the accused was arrested while two managed to escape from the spot.

Under the supervision of Excise Officer Inderjit Singh Sehjra, a raid was conducted by Hitesh Prabhakar and Karan Sharma (Excise Inspectors at Nador village under Patti area) and 250 litres of unclaimed lahan was recovered which was destroyed on the spot. The team also conducted a raid in Pahuwind village under Bhikhiwind circle where 50 litres of of lahan and 10 bottles (7,500 ml) of illicit liquor were recovered. The accused Ajit Singh was arrested from the spot by the excise team.

Meanwhile, in another instance, the Verowal and Khalra police conducted raids at the residence of Rachhapal Singh of Ekal Gadda and Sadha Singh of Narla, respectively, and recovered 40 litres each of lahan. The accused managed to escape from the spot. Cases under the Excise Act have been registered against the accused. The district police have launched a special campaign against illicit liquor after the hooch tragedy that occurred in Amritsar district claiming 30 lives.
