Prof Singhal emphasised that an imbalance of oxidative stressors and anti-oxidative mechanisms contributes to cardiac damage. He explained the role of oxidative and nitrosative stress with an example of anti-cancer drug doxorubicin, which is highly effective in anti-cancer therapy, but is also known to cause cardiac damage by generation of oxidative stress.

He said their lab was involved in studying the effectiveness of vitamin C to reduce doxorubicin induced heart failure.

Dr Rajbir Bhatti from pharmaceutical sciences coordinated the event and Dr MS Bhatti, HoD, introduced the speaker.
