Farm body to hold gathering at Jandiala Guru today
In continuation of the ongoing agitation at Shambhu, Khanauri and Ratanpura (Rajasthan) borders since January 13 last year, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher reiterated that a tractor march would be taken out on January 26, followed by another event at the Shambhu border on January 29. He was speaking at a press conference here today.
Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher will mobilise support for the events and a massive gathering comprising farmers, labourers and women would be held at Dana Mandi in Jandiala Guru on January 23.
Pandher emphasised that the agitation was not just about farmers’ demands, but also about protecting the interests of shopkeepers and workers affected by corporate houses and online retail platforms. He urged urban shopkeepers to support the movement, stating that it would highlight the demands of farmers and workers while protecting the society.
“Small traders and shopkeepers in the city are under direct attack from corporate houses as they are losing business to them. The corporate sector is not troubling farmers alone, the shopkeepers’ survival too is threatened,” said Pandher.
He further said during the programme announced by the farmers, protests would be held in front of corporate houses, shopping malls and BJP leaders’ residences.
