Farmers burn administration's effigy in Tarn Taran
Hundreds of farmers and mazdoors expressing their strong resentment against the bid to grab four acres land belonging to an elderly woman Balbir Kaur of Ruriwala village held demonstrations at 16 different points in the district on Thursday. Agitating activists burnt an effigy of a cabinet minister and the district administration.
The call for the protest was given by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), Punjab. Harjinder Singh Shakari, district general secretary, KMSC, said under the leadership of Satnam Singh Manochahal, activists held demonstrations at Khadoor Sahib, Chohla Sahib, Chhapri Sahib, Dhotian, Noordi, Chabal, Gohalwar, Jeobala, Patti and at other places.
Shakri said leaders addressed protesters at different places and condemned the armed men associated with the ruling party who were threatening tillers of the land given on contract by Balbir Kaur.
Leaders said despite taking the matter to the police and the civil administration, the woman did not get any justice. No action was taken against alleged land grabbers, they said.
Leaders said the KMSC had demonstration in front of the District Administrative Complex (DAC) on Friday in case land grabbers were not removed from woman’s fields.
