Thirty-three persons, including a woman, were taken into custody as they tried to prevent officials from taking possession of the land acquired for the Bharatmala project. The incident took place near Bhitte Wadh village in Kahnuwan block of the district on Tuesday. All of them were later released.

The farmers came to know last night that police and administration officials would come in the morning to take possession the land. In the morning, local farmers and activists of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee gathered there in large numbers.

The police also reached there in full strength accompanied by senior officials. The farmers started protesting against the administration as bulldozers moved towards their fields. The police took 33 persons into preventive custody. SSP Aditya said they were later released.
