Farmers under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) expressed resentment over the low prices of basmati varieties and threw away the crop during a protest organised in front of the District Administrative Complex (DAC) on Saturday.

Satnam Singh Manochahal, Fateh Singh Piddi and Harjinder Singh Shakri were among those who addressed the gathering.

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committeeleaders said that the prices of basmati crop have dipped as compared to previous years which resulted in the farmers being exploited in the market.

The union leaders said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced MSP for crops but it not been implemented yet. The leaders said that the present prices were causing loss to the farmers at the rate of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per acre.
