Farmers under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee held meetings in various villages of the district here on Monday to mobilise support for the tractor march scheduled for August 15. Farmer leaders stated that the march would start from Attari and culminate at Golden Gate.

KMSC leader Gurlal Singh said, “We would burn copies of all laws including new criminal procedure code, electricity amendment Act and others to highlight the anti-public face of the Central government led by BJP.” The KMSC leader stated that hundreds of tractors would participate in the march which aims to unmask the face of BJP government.

The union leaders stated that the protest presently going on at Haryana border would continue till their demands regarding minimum support price (MSP) for crops and a legal guarantee for it is accepted.

KMSC general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said that a tractor parade would be taken out all over the country as per the programme announced by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political). He said while the PM was taking credit for the new improved varieties of seeds, he fails to understand that unless a profitable price is assured for crops, the farmers are not going to benefit.

“The credit for improved high-yielding varieties of crops goes to scientists, most of whom belong to the agrarian community. They are doing their job with full responsibility but the Centre is running away from its responsibility,” said Pandher. — TNS
