Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) have announced plans to hold protests outside the residences of cabinet ministers and MLAs of the ruling party on Monday. The protest is aimed at putting pressure on the state government to address the long-standing demands of the agrarian community.
The main demands of the protesters include implementation of a legal provision to guarantee Minimum Support Price (MSP) and accepting 12 other demands.
The Morcha leaders also demanded compensation for financial losses incurred by farmers during the police crackdown on their protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders on March 19. The protesters are seeking compensation for stolen goods, including tractor-trolleys, electronics and other equipment.
The unions also demand action against police officials responsible for using force on farmers and labourers during the crackdown, including the dismissal of SHO Harpreet Singh. They have further demanded registration of FIRs against those responsible for theft and vandalism during the protests, including MLA Gurlal Ghanour, who is accused of being involved in the conspiracy.
The protests would be held simultaneously outside the homes of cabinet ministers and MLAs, and the farmers have vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met, said Sarwan Singh Pandher of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee.
