Farmers led by the Kirti Kisan Union staged a protest on the Bhandari bridge here on Thursday. They were demanding the registration of a murder case against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anil Vij. Farmers’ leaders alleged that Subhkaran Singh, who was killed at Haryana border in police firing.
KKU leader Jatinder Singh Chinna said, “Personnel of the police and paramilitary forces entered Punjab territory and damaged dozens of vehicles and injured many farmers. The cops also took farmer Pritpal Singh along with them after seriously injuring him.” Chinna said the police force had acted like a gang of organized criminals by using violence on unarmed farmers.
Satnam Singh Jhander, district president, KKU, said, “After a week of the violence, the Punjab Government has registered an FIR against unnamed persons for the murder of Subhkaran Singh. What is condemnable is that the FIR has been registered against unknown persons when it was very clear that who killed the youth.” He said the KKU would continue its protest till the real culprits are booked by name.
Hardeep Kaur Kotla, state committee member, said, “The methodological violence against the farmers from the start of the march towards Delhi should be investigated by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.”
After gathering at Bhandari bridge, the protesters took out a march from Hall Bazaar to Kotwali. The farmers shouted slogans against the BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana.
