Fatehgarh Churian road shows signs of decay within 3 months
Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla has demanded a Vigilance Bureau inquiry into the construction of the road from Amritsar to Fatehgarh Churian via Sangatpura. The road, completed just three months ago, has already started showing signs of deterioration and patchworks are currently being carried out. MP Aujla criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of wasting public funds.
This road, also known as Comrade Sohan Singh Josh Marg, was constructed by the Punjab Government after 15 years. It was widened from 18 to 33 feet, providing relief to commuters. However, the newly built road have already started coming off at places.
MP Aujla highlighted that the Fatehgarh Churian Road is a crucial link between Amritsar and Dera Baba Nanak, a city near the India-Pakistan border. This 24-km-long road connects the Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts, making its rapid deterioration a serious concern for thousands of daily commuters.
He alleged that substandard materials were used in the construction and the gravel-stone mixture did not meet quality standards. Additionally, electric poles and trees were not removed during the widening process, further affecting the road’’s condition. Before the reconstruction, the road was already in poor shape, leading to frequent accidents and casualties.
Now, with patchworks underway, MP Aujla has condemned the situation terming the early decay as a waste of public money. He demanded that the officials responsible for using the poor construction quality material be held accountable. He urged the government to conduct a Vigilance inquiry, fix responsibility for the failure, and ensure that such negligence does not reappear.
“The government cannot misuse public funds in this manner. It must take this matter seriously and give answers to people,” Aujla added.
