A meeting of the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation was held here on Thursday.

Held under the chairmanship of Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, it was decided to speed up development works in the city. Besides, MC Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj, Senior Deputy Mayor Raman Bakhshi, Deputy Mayor Yunus Kumar, councillors Vikas Soni and Gurjit Kaur and MC officials were also present in this meeting.

In the meeting, proposals for development works costing crores of rupees were presented. All resolutions except some were unanimously approved.

Mostly works of the Civil and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Department were sanctioned. These included works of super sucker machine for desilting sewerage system, re-carpeting of roads, laying interlocking tiles in streets, construction of chambers, installation of tubewells for better supply of drinking water and water supply lines, etc. This would prevent the leakage of supply lines.

Besides, the construction of manhole chambers and repair of chambers, installation of streetlights and fancy streetlights has been approved.

On the occasion, Mayor Karamjit Singh and Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj jointly instructed the officials present in the meeting that every councillor of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation was respected and development work in every councillor’s ward should be carried out without any discrimination. “All works should be carried out under the supervision of the area councillors. There is no shortage of funds for development works,” said Rintu.

The Mayor said the MC General House meeting would be conducted in the near future and more proposals for development works would be approved so that all such works could be completed and handed over to the public before the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections.

Superintending Engineers Anurag Mahajan, Dupinder Sandhu and Sandeep Singh; Executive Engineers Bhalinder Singh, Rajinder Singh Mardi and SS Malli and Secretary Daljit Singh and other officials were also present in the meeting.
