Festive fervour marks Basant Panchami in Amritsar

Basant Panchami marks the end of winter and beginning of spring. The festival is also associated with vibrant colours, traditional food and kite-flying. Marking the festivities, several institutions today celebrated Basant Panchami by hosting cultural events and kite-flying competitions.
The Department of Law of the Guru Nanak Dev University under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu organised a kite-flying and doll-making competition for the students. A large number of students took part in the competitions. Head of the department, Dr Bimaldeep Singh shared his views on the importance of Basant Panchami and encouraged the students to organise such competitions in future also. The students participated enthusiastically in the competitions and the winners also received awards.
Similarly, at Saroop Rani Government College for Women, the PG Department of Commerce students and faculty came together for a day filled with cultural events and enthusiasm.
Principal DR Daljit Kaur, addressed the gathering, emphasising the significance of Basant as a symbol of renewal and the onset of spring. Highlighting the cultural importance of the festival, she also encouraged everyone to embrace the spirit of unity and festivity. The event featured a range of cultural performances, including music, dance and poetry recitations, showcasing the diverse talent of the college community.
