Diocese of Amritsar (DoA), Church of North India (CNI), welcomed Neena Charan, the first woman Bishop of the Diocese of Bhopal, Church of North India, who is on her first papal visit.
A spokesperson for DoA said this visit aims to fortify the bond between the two dioceses through collaborative efforts in women’s and youth empowerment, social outreach programmes and initiatives promoting peace and brotherhood.
As the third woman to ascend to the position of Bishop in the Church of North India’s history, Bishop Neena Charan’s visit is also significant as the DoA has launched a series of women empowerment activities, focused on forging meaningful partnerships between the Diocese of Amritsar and the Diocese of Bhopal, through joint initiatives. These collaborative efforts will also prioritise social outreach programmes and activities that promote peace and brotherhood, ultimately contributing to the betterment of society, the spokesperson added.
“Peace is the need of the hour, and it can only be achieved by empowering women, youth and the marginalised sections of society through various outreach programmes,” emphasised Bishop Neena Charan.
“We believe that empowering women and youth is crucial for building a peaceful and harmonious society. Through our joint initiatives, we aim to provide opportunities for growth, development and service, enabling them to reach their full potential,” she added.
Manoj Charan, Bishop of the DoA and Neena Charan’s husband, said, “This visit marks the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between our dioceses. We look forward to working together on initiatives that promote the welfare of women and youth and foster a sense of community and cooperation.”
