Five booked for luring away girl on pretext of marriage

In an incident related to a girl being lured and kidnapped on the pretext of marriage, the Khalra police have booked five persons of a family on Thursday. The incident took place two weeks back. The girl had taken along Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from her house at the time of her ‘abduction’ by the accused. The victim was a student of Class 11.

The police said here today that the accused included Gurbir Singh, his father Sarwan Singh and mother Manjit Kaur, residents of Bhikhiwind, his married sister Paramjit Kaur and her husband Mandar Singh, residents of Algon Kalan.

The mother of the victim, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the accused was abducted on June 1 when she had gone to Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, to pay obeisance.

The police informed that a case under Sections 137 (2), 96, 303 (2) and 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the accused who are absconding.
