Five of family booked for dowry harassment

The Khalchian police have booked five members of a family, including the complainant’s husband, on a charge of dowry harassment. The husband has also been booked on a charge of bigamy.

The suspects have been identified as complainant’s husband Jasbir Singh, her brother-in-law Prince, her mother-in-law Manjit Kaur and her father-in-law Jaspal Singh, all residents of Rajinder Nagar, and relative Raj Kaur, a resident of New Jawahar Nagar.

A case under Section 498-A, 494 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against them.

Complainant Kirandeep Kaur told the police that she was married to Jasbir Singh in 2017 and after a few months of the marriage, her husband and in-laws started harassing her. She said in September 2018, she became the mother of a girl and her in-laws beat her up and threw out of the house.

Kirandeep said she came to know that Jasbir was going to marrying another woman in Butari village without divorcing her with the mediation of Raj Kaur.

Investigating officer Tejpal Singh said further investigation was on and efforts were on to arrest the suspects.
