Five smugglers nabbed with heroin, Rs 8.5 lakh drug money, two pistols

The CIA staff of Amritsar rural police have arrested two Ferozepur residents, among five cross-border smugglers, and confiscated Rs 8.5 lakh of drug money, two pistols and 160gm of heroin from them.

The contraband and weapons were smuggled from Pakistan through drones and the miscreants had already sold a major portion of the contraband before being caught, it was learnt.

Those arrested were identified as Sukhchain Singh, Sukhpal Singh, Navdeep Singh, all residents of Daoke border village and Sukhbir Singh and Rahul, alias, Nikku of Basti Khalia in Ferozepur.

Amritsar (rural) SSP Charanjit Singh confirmed the seizure and arrest of the drug traffickers. He said during patrolling near Khurmania village, the police received a tip-off regarding the accused being in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers and that they had recently smuggled contraband and weapons into the country. They were travelling in a car (PB-05-AQ-3350) and on a bike (PB-02-A-1042) from Khasa to Ramtirath road via Khurmania link road, the informer told the police.

Immediately, police teams laid a naka, intercepted them and recovered cash, drugs and weapons. The police seized a .32 bore pistol without magazine, a .30 bore pistol without magazine and barrel, besides the car and the bike. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act was registered against them.
