The government initiated training workshops for the street vendors about hygiene and waste management under street vending project at the MC office. A team of the PGI, Chandigarh, in association with Municipal Corporation, held a workshop for capacity building and training of street vendors at head office of the MC at the Ranjit Avenue yesterday. The first workshop was attended by 40 street vendors.

Nodal Officer on the street vending project, Jaswinder Singh stated that they have targeted to provide training to 4,000 street vendors during next 100 days.

Programme Manager Mandeep Kaur gave hygiene tips on food safety during the Covid epidemic, food preparation, precautionary measures, waste management and non-use of plastics to vendors. Training coordinator Gitanjali Gupta threw light on the schemes of the bank and Jaspal Singh highlighted the ill-effects of tobacco and cigarettes.

A skit in this regard was also presented by the artists. At the end of the training workshop, Dr Vishal Soni, Program Officer, PGI, provided certified food safety kits, including aprons, masks, gloves, hats and sanitisers to street vendors.

The workshop was also attended by Sandeep Rishi, Additional Commissioner MC and he said under the Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Yojana, street vendors were being given loans of up to Rs 1,000. The registration is being done under other schemes of Central government and the state government and the vendors should make most of it.

Estate Officer Dharminderjit Singh, Chief Sanitary Inspector JP Singh Babbar and Dr Inderpal President Rehri-Farhi Union also shared their views also.
