A former sarpanch and commission agent, Gurdeep Singh, was shot dead by four unidentified assailants at the Sathiala grain market in the Baba Bakala sub-division in Amritsar on Wednesday.

He was at his shop when the armed persons shot him. He died on the spot.

Police officials, led by SSP Charanjit Singh, reached the spot and started the probe. The police took the body of the deceased into possession and kept it at the Baba Bakala Civil Hospital for autopsy. As per police sources, gangsters’ involvement could not be ruled out though investigation was still in the initial stage.
