The accused have been identified as Jobanpreet Singh, Pawandeep Singh and Baljinder Singh — all residents of Fatahpur — and Sukhram Singh alias Sukha, a junk dealer from Bharariwal village.

According to the complaint lodged by Satinderjit Singh of Guru Ki Wadali, he and his helper were on their way to check a mobile tower in Cheecha village when they found a group of men stealing batteries. “They had already loaded around 11 batteries in their goods carrier when we caught three of them red-handed and informed the police,” he said.

During interrogation, it came to light that the stolen batteries were being sold to Sukhram, who was also apprehended at the spot after he arrived to collect the consignment. The complainant later handed over the batteries and vehicle to the police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Attari, Yadwinder Singh, said the police are investigating the case in detail and suspect the gang’s involvement in similar thefts from other mobile towers across the district. “More recoveries and arrests are likely as the investigation progresses,” he added. A case has been registered, and further probe is underway.
