Gang of criminals busted, 4 held; weapons seized

The city police claimed to have busted a gang of criminals with the arrest of four miscreants here today. The arrested suspects were identified as Anwar Singh (28), alias Jambu, Gurpreet Singh, alias Kaka (27), Akashdeep (25) and Suraj Singh (26), all residents of the Maqboolpura area. The police recovered a 12 bore gun double barrel gun and 32 bore pistol from the suspects. The police said their accomplice Sandeep Singh, alias Ladi, would be brought from jail on a production warrant.

Harpal Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-3), Amritsar, said the police arrested Anwar Singh and Gurpreet Singh near Vallah bridge and recovered one double barrel 12 bore gun and a 12 bore pistol from them.

During questioning, the duo disclosed name of their accomplices Akashdeep and Suraj Singh who were arrested by the police, the ADCP said. He said their other accomplice Sandeep Singh, alias Ladi, who was lodged in jail in an NDPS Act case, would be brought on a production warrant. ACP Gurinderbir Singh said Anwar was already facing five criminal cases while Gurpreet had 12 criminal cases registered against him.

Akashdeep was involved in two snatching cases and two cases were registered against Suraj under the NDPS Act. Sandeep Singh had 18 criminal cases registered against him. A fresh case under Section 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against suspects at the Maqboolpura police station.
