A gangster was injured in an encounter with the police last night on the Nagoke bridge under Verowal police station. Sukhbir Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tarn Taran city, informed that the injured gangster has been identified as Raman Bharti, a resident of Beas.
The DSP said that the police, acting on the information collected from sources, installed a naka on the Nagoke canal bridge when at around midnight, an SUV (Scorpio) appeared. The police team chased the SUV and the gangster driving the vehicle fired at the police when he was signalled to stop. The police team too fired at the vehicle. The gangster tried to run away from the spot and fired at the police team.
In retaliatory firing by the police, the gangster received a bullet in his leg and fell down. He was nabbed by the police and has been admitted to the local Civil Hospital for treatment. The police recovered two pistols and two cartridges from the possession of the gangster. The Verowal police have registered a case in this regard, said DSP Sukhbir Singh.
