After ending their strike, workers of the Solid Waste Management Company resumed their work this morning. However, removing 1,500 metric tonnes of garbage piled up in the city during the last three days will be a big challenge for them. The workers had suspended door-to-door collection after they went on an indefinite protest on Wednesday.

A huge amount of garbage can be seen piled up over the bins at the source level. Residents irked over non-lifting of garbage as wet garbage is stinking in houses.

“The vehicles of door to door collection firm were irregular and visit once or twice in a week. But after the strike, no one has visited our area. Heaps of garbage are stinking inside houses. The MC should make some alternative arrangements in case of such a strike of employees,” said Randhir Sharma, a Vallah Bypass road resident.

According to workers of the Averda, the firm hired by the MC, it would take three to four days to streamline the garbage collection as a number of vehicles were lying defunct. The company officials have released their salaries but the infrastructure is same.
