The financial issues with a private firm, sublet by solid waste management company, Averda, have led to irregular lifting of garbage in various parts of the north constituency here.

Following the payment issues, the firm hired for the north constituency has not been operating its vehicles for the last one week. Initially, the lifting of garbage was affected but after the intervention of Municipal Health officials, Averda arranged some vehicles and started lifting garbage after a regular one-day gap.

Health officials claimed that the company officials were informed that they would have to pay the penalty in case of suspension of garbage lifting in any of the city areas.

Now, the company has been arranging garbage lifting vehicles from other constituencies and lifting garbage in shifts. The company is lifting garbage from Ward Nos.4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 in the morning shift and collection is being conducted in Ward Nos.3, 5, 11 and 16 in the evening shift. As vehicles are being arranged from other constituencies, garbage lifting in other constituencies has reportedly been affected.

Ajay Kanwar, Municipal Health Officer, said, “We are concerned about the lifting of garbage and door-to-door collection. Averda made alternative arrangements and our sanitary inspectors are regularly checking it. The dispute between Averda and the firm would be sorted out soon.”
