The child sex ratio in the district has shown remarkable improvement with the administration running frequent awareness campaigns and keeping a check on gender determination tests and gender selective abortions.
The district officials stated that the sex ratio during 2016-17 was 874 girls per 1,000 boys which now improved to 910 girls per 1,000 boys.
Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Sabarwal said the district was adjudged the best in the state for successfully running ‘Poshan Abhiyan’. He said the District Child Protection Officer and others had done a remarkable job for which they were honoured at the Republic Day celebrations.
Sabarwal said the department had also provided free of charge martial arts training to girls and so far around 7,500 girls had been trained under the programme. “Girls are trained to defend themselves and training helps them boost confidence in self,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana’ of the government was a success in the district. “We are also creating awareness about rights of the children in schools so that they do not face any problem,” he said.
