Demanding strict punishment for the accused involved in the sacrilege cases that took place in the past, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has welcomed the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda followers in an incident of sacrilege that took place in Malke village of Moga district in November 2015.

A court in Moga on Thursday sentenced three Dera Sacha Sauda followers to three-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each in a case pertaining to the sacrilege incidents in 2015.

The SGPC president said those involved in the cases of sacrilege should be sentenced to life imprisonment so that no one dares to commit such a crime.

“The role of the Sirsa dera associated persons has been proved in the case of sacrilege that took place at Malke village and similarly, the SIT report has exposed the role of dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his followers in the sacrilege cases of Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari. Strict action should also be taken against the dera head,” he said.

The SGPC president demanded that justice should be delivered at the earliest in the cases. He wanted life imprisonment for those involved in cases of sacrilege.
