Amritsar: Directorate of placement and career enhancement, Guru Nanak Dev University, organised a campus placement drive at the university. Two students of BTech food technology course got selected at an initial stipend of Rs 23,000 per month for one year internship offered by Haldiram Snacks Private Ltd. Before beginning their jobs, selected applicants will be provided a year-long comprehensive training. It’s a good opportunity for the students to learn about the food industry from the best professionals, who will help students to grow both personally and professionally. Shantanu Roy and Abhay Kumar from the Haldiram visited Guru Nanak Dev University. They conducted written test and interviews to select the students. Dr. Maninder Kaur, head, food technology department, and other senior professors of the department interacted with the company officials.

Online applications are invited for various posts of instructors for different courses/diplomas in the department of lifelong learning, Guru Nanak Dev University, on purely part-time contract/lecture basis for the session 2022-23. Prof Saroj Bala, director of the department, said the candidates could fill the online application form at the website http://www.gndu.ac.in/lifelongptins/ before June 30. The applicants can visit the university website www.gndu.ac.infor the interview date, time, venue and qualifications/instructions etc.
DAV students visit Verka milk plant
Students of biotechnology department, DAV College, Amritsar, got first-hand exposure of how milk was processed, prepared and packed during their visit to Verka milk plant, Amritsar. The educational visit intended to give information regarding methods of preparation of various milk products, pasteurisation, preservation of nutrients of milk products and dietary values of different milk products. After the visit, students will be preparing visit report of the milk plant. The field trip to milk plant helped the students in practical understanding of the concepts of nutrition. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar said the students learnt a lot from the visit and stated that the college was making constant efforts to initiate educational trips and they were a part of the university curriculum.
Seminar organised for teachers
A special seminar for religious, history and Punjabi teachers was organised by the Dharam Prachar Committee under the Chief Diwan on Friday at the Chief Khalsa Diwan auditorium Sri Kalgidhar Sahib in which Chief Khalsa Diwan present Inderbir Singh Nijjar addressed the gathering. The chief guest and eminent Sikh scholar Prof Balwant Singh Dhillon participated as the keynote speaker of the seminar. Prof Dhillon shared his views on “Spiritual Experience of Sikhism and Its Uniqueness” and “Approach to Researching Sikh History”. He said Guru Nanak Sahib composed Bani from personal divine experience. He said in the contemporary religious tradition of Baba Nanak, religion was considered as a means of livelihood but Guru Nanak Sahib in his Bani raised his voice for respecting women but for benevolence, honesty, truth, rights, virtue and justice. Sikh intellectual Dr Inderjit Singh Gogoani said Guru Nanak’s Bani was like a river that overcame social, religious, political restrictions, conflicts and stereotypes. Dr Sukhdev Singh Sohal, head, department of history, Guru Nanak Dev University, also shared his views. On the occasion, books written by Prof Balwant Singh Dhillon were released by Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, president of Chief Khalsa Diwan and members present.
Urdu classes from July 9
District Language Officer Paramjit Singh Kalsi said the Punjab Language Department would start teaching Urdu for free from July 9. The duration of the course will be six months. Classes for this course will be held on office working days from 5.15 pm to 6.15 pm. “This course can be taken by students or even general public, who are interested in learning Urdu,” informed Kalsi.
