GNDU VC mourns the loss of Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi
Vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr Karamjeet Singh, has expressed grief over the demise of Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi, a prominent scholar of the Punjabi literary world. He described Dr Jaggi’s demise as an irreplaceable void in the Punjabi literary world besides being a great loss for his family and friends.
Dr Manjinder Singh, Head, School of Punjabi Studies, and the entire staff of the department, mourned the loss of Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi, a celebrated scholar, who was conferred the Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of literature and education in 2023.
In a condolence meeting held at the university, Dr Manjinder Singh said that Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi was among those thinkers, who played an institutional role in the field of research in Punjabi literature. “Therefore, with his departure, the Punjabi literary world has suffered an irreparable loss,” he said.
Assistant Professor Dr Baljit Kaur Riar said that the scope of Dr Jaggi’s academic reach was so wide that he was loved by students and enlightened thinkers alike. Dr Jaggi dedicated his entire life to the cause of studying, writing and critically analysing literature of the medieval period from various perspectives and researching into different aspects of Gurbani and the literature of Bhakti Movement, both in Punjabi and Hindi.
