Jaspal Singh Sandhu, the present incumbent Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), received an extension in his term for another three months.

Acting on the recommendation of the government, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria gave his assent to the decision.

Appointed V-C in August 2017, Sandhu’s tenure is set to stretch over seven years. Before joining as the V-C in 2017, he was the secretary of University Grants Commission (UGC).

Sandhu also served as a professor and headed the Department of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy at GNDU.

It was also learnt that the Bhagwant Mann-led government has already commenced screening applicants for the coveted post.

Around 50 applications, many of which were from the senior faculty of the GNDU, have already been received.
