Golden Temple decked up for Parkash Purb

To mark the first ‘Parkash Purb’ of Guru Granth Sahib on Sunday, the Golden Temple complex has been decked up with aromatic flowers brought from all parts of the country and abroad.

Around 400 quintals of various kinds of flowers were imported from the Netherlands, Thailand and Singapore to embellish the walls of the Akal Takht, the passage leading to the sanctum sanctorum and the Darshani Deori.

An SGPC official informed that about 200 artisans from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata have been brought for decorating the shrine. The different variety of aromatic and ornamental flowers which were used for decoration include King Protea, Bankesia, Pin Protea, Red and Green Berries, Anthurium, Oriental lilly, Brassica, Pink Cushion, Silver dollars, Halkonia, Costco, Limonium, Roses, Baby breath, Daisy, Sunflowers, Gerbera, Orchids, Star, Gulmohar and Marigold.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, while extending his greetings, said that the SGPC has chalked out various programmes at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall in the Golden Temple complex to mark the celebrations. A Nagar Kirtan would be taken out from Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib, where Sri Guru Granth Sahib was originally edited. It would pass through various bazaars of the walled city before culminating at the Golden Temple.

As the tradition goes, ‘Jalau’ (Show of splendour) would also be displayed in the sanctum sanctorum.
