Amritsar goldsmith suicide case: Congress MLA's PA arrested

Nearly two-and-a-half-years after a goldsmith committed suicide, the police have arrested Paramjit Singh, former personal assistant of Congress MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria.
He was nabbed from Sultanwind Road area late last evening. The police team reached there following a tip off that he was there for entering into a compromise with the victim’s family at the behest of a political leader.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhimanyu Rana confirmed the arrest. He said further investigations were under progress. While accusing Paramjit and an ASI besides another goldsmith and his two sons of harassment, the victim Sukhwinder Singh had committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance. Besides Paramjit the Division B police have booked ASI Narinder Singh, goldsmith Harbhajan Singh and his two sons on the charge of abetment to suicide.
Harbhajan was arrested on the same day and his two sons secured anticipatory bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The police also initiated departmental probe against ASI Narinder Singh.
The incident hit headlines after SAD leader Talbir Singh Gill, along with his supporters, staged a dharna outside Division B police station over alleged rising crime in the area. —
