Gurdaspur has topped in the ‘Ease of doing business’ initiative in Punjab, a development which has been welcomed by senior officers of the administration.

A high ease of doing business ranking means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm.

The district ranking, released today, is categorised in two groups —-‘Large Industrial Districts’ and ‘Other Districts.’ Gurdaspur with a score of 54.77 per cent has been placed at number one spot in the ‘Other Districts’ group. It is followed by Mansa with 54.65 per cent and Fazilka with 53 per cent.

In the ‘Large Industrial Districts’ group, SAS Nagar has been placed first followed by Hoshiarpur and Sangrur in that order.

The industrial township of Batala falls in the revenue district of Gurdaspur. Industrialists claim opening a firm has become much easier than what it was earlier due to the opening of a single window system.

Deputy Commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta said the new single window system had played a big role in enabling Gurdaspur to top the ‘Ease of doing business’ ranking.

A single window system is a digital platform which allows businessmen to apply for approvals and permissions with a single government agency.
