Guru Nanak varsity to hold 3rd Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture
The Nanak Singh Literary Foundation and Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) will host the third Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture to commemorate the eminent novelist. The topic of the lecture will be “The Creator of Modern Punjabi Literature: Nanak Singh”.
Dr Jagbir Singh, Chancellor, Punjab Central University, Bathinda, will be the main speaker while Navdeep Suri, grandson of Nanak Singh and former diplomat, will also address the event.
Guru Nanak Dev University vice-chancellor Prof Karamjit Singh said, “This is a commendable effort to preserve the works of the famous novelist Nanak Singh. He was a great personality of the Punjabi literary world, who served humanity by making contemporary and universal themes the basis of his works. Nanak Singh’s status is unequalled in Punjabi novel writing and in the story of the development of Punjabi language and fiction literature in the modern era.” GNDU has established the Nanak Singh Centre in order to preserve the literary legacy of the novelist. Nanak Singh Literary Foundation president Kulbir Singh Suri and secretary Navdeep Singh Suri stated that the establishment of the centre is an effort by his family to preserve his literary legacy. An annual amount of Rs 25,000 is also provided as a fellowship to a research student of the Punjabi Studies School through the selection made on merit basis by the Nanak Singh Literary Foundation.
