Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib's Parkash Purb celebrated
Amritsar: Khalsa College Governing Council celebrated the Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Patshahi of Miri Peeri, with great devotion at Gurdwara Sahib, on Khalsa College campus. The kirtan group of Bhai Randhir Singh, the ragi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, sang Gur Jas and delighted the audience. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Honorary Secretary of the Council, congratulated the sangat and the people of the country and abroad on the auspicious day and said Guru Maharaj had given religious, political and cultural consciousness to the people, gave birth to a powerful religious ideology so that they would be able to lead a life of self-respect. Chhina said while sitting on the gurtagaddi wore two swords ‘ Miri-Piri ‘, which symbolize devotion and power, hence Guru Sahib Ji is also called the owner of ‘ Miri-Piri ‘. Principal of Khalsa College Senior Secondary School and expert in Sikh history and Dr Inderjit Singh Gogoani gave a detailed account of the life philosophy of Guru Hargobind.
Event on Guru Nanak’s Travels
Guru Nanak Dev University will host an event on presentation on the making of the 24 episode Docuseries : Allegory, A Tapestry of Guru Nanak’s Travels. This event will be organised in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan on June 17 at 3.00 pm under the aegis of Centre for Interfaith Studies of the University. The 24 Episode docuseries on Guru Nanak is a joint production of ‘Lost Heritage Productions’, a Singapore-based production house and SikhLens Productions; a USA-based non-profit organisation. The docuseries is guided by Guru Nanak philosophy and inspired by historical texts. It has been conceived and directed by the Singapore based couple, Amardeep Singh and Vininder Kaur. It has been filmed in over 150 multi faith sites in nine countries where Guru Nanak had travelled in the 15th century during his 22- year spiritual quest. These nine countries are India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Prof SS Behl, Dean, Academic Affairs said Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, MLA Amritsar and president, Chief Khalsa Diwan will be the chief guest and Prof Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu will preside over the function.
Lecture on Sikhism organised
A lecture on service to the Humanity Mission of Sikhism was organised in collaboration with Khalsa Global Research Foundation at Khalsa College for Women. On the occasion of the programme organised in collaboration with College Principal Dr Surinder Kaur, Kawaljit Singh from USA participated as the keynote speaker and Sarabjit Singh, Coordinator of Khalsa Global Foundation, was present as the special guest. Principal Dr Surendra Kaur, while welcoming the guests, praised the work being done by the institution for social welfare. While addressing the students, Kawaljit Singh apprised the students of the spiritual philosophy by giving worldly examples. He told about the resolve to serve humanity and the importance of Guru in Sikhism. While Sarabjit Singh apprised about the work done by the organisation. Prof Ravinder Kaur, Prof Manveer Kaur, Dr Suman Nayyar, Prof Sharina Mahajan, Dr Jaswinder Singh, Prof Samandeep Kaur, Dr Namrata and other staff members were present on the occasion. Armandeep wins gold in State Championship
Tarn Taran: Armandeep Singh, a student Guru Amar Dass Adarsh Institute, Goindwal Sahib, has made his way for the Nationals by winning the state-level Kick Boxing Championship. He got gold medal in the recently concluded 18th Punjab State Junior Kick Boxing Championship held at Sunan (Sangrur). Jaspal Singh Randhawa, chairman of the managing committee of the Institution school said Armandeep Singh won gold medal in the seven matches of the championship. He said that Armandeep would now compete at the national level championship to be held at Kolkata. Manisha Sood Principal of the institution congratulated Armandeep Singh.
Workshop on hair style organised
The Department of Lifelong Learning of Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with VLCC, Amritsar, organised a workshop on the topic “Hair Style”. Prof Saroj Bala, Director, welcomed the team led by Jasveen Kaur, manager of the Academy along with hairstylists. She apprised them of the different courses run by the department and asked them to focus on the interaction during practical sessions for refinement of skills of students. The team demonstrated the different modern hairstyles with Russian touch and motivated as well as trained the students to do it on their own peers. The students learnt professional skills to deal with clients. The trainer guided the process to do self hair styles in an easy way. During the training programme students also asked questions and participated enthusiastically. Tejpal Kaur and Jaskaran Kaur skillfully organised the entire session and proposed a vote of thanks to the entire team for their support and cooperation in future.
