Gym owners accuse city police of inaction
Owners of prominent gym have accused the city police of inaction in an incident in which a youth, along with his women friend, entered the premises with a weapon. Entering gym with a weapon is strongly prohibited by its owners. Bureaucrats and judges are among the clientele of the gym who come here for exercise every day. The incident occurred on January 3. A CCTV footage of the incident has also gone viral on social media. The gym owners lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police on the same day in this connection.
In the complaint, Manish Raj, manager of the Gym, alleged that the suspect, identified as Simar Kabaddi, entered the gym on the pretext of meeting some friend. He said before exercising, he handed over his pistol and other belonging to the woman accompanying him. He said as he saw this in the footage of the CCTV camera, he went inside gym and asked him to keep his weapon outside. He alleged that the suspect started arguing with him and others present on the occasion and even threatened them. The gym owners said the police were not taking action against the suspect as he was a close aide of an influential liquor contractor here.
The suspect, Simar Kabaddi, has several cases registered against him. His presence at the gym with a weapon has raised many questions.
Gurpreet Singh, SHO, Civil Lines police station, said, “The police are verifying facts and investigating the incident from all possible angles.”
“The investigation into the case has been handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police (North),” a senior police official said, while adding that appropriate action would be taken against the suspect in this connection.
