Harike man gets Rs 50L extortion call from gangster
Veer Singh, a retired state government employee, has been receiving WhatsApp calls being made by gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa, a resident of Harike, to seek extortion of Rs 50 lakh.
Veer Singh, an elderly resident of Ruriwala village, in his complaint to the Chohla Sahib police alleged that on December 18, gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa in his threat call demanded an extortion of Rs 50 lakh and the next time, he called threatening to kill his family members in case he failed to oblige him. Veer Singh and his wife have retired from the Health Department and of their two sons, one is settled abroad and the other is an employee with the Health Department.
Sub-Inspector Jassa Singh of the Cholha Sahib police station said a case under Sections 308 (4) and 87 of the BNS has been registered. Around 40 criminal cases have been registered against the gangster at different police stations.
