Health Dept holds spl training, workshop

The Health Department organised a special training workshop to improve sex ratio in the district. The workshop was held under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr Swaranjeet Dhawan and District Family Welfare Officer Dr Neelam Bhagat.

Community Health Officers and paramedical staff from across the district took part in the one-day training programme. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Swaranjeet Dhawan said that the main aim of the workshop is to create awareness and take effective steps to improve the sex ratio and enhance the quality of health services.

He said that female foeticide is a curse for society. "It not only creates social imbalance but is also a serious crime under the law," he added.

District Family Welfare Officer Dr Neelam Bhagat explained the provisions of the PC-PNDT Act, which strictly prohibits revealing the gender of an unborn child. "Anyone found guilty of this act can face imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh," she said.
